Inspiration and Empowerment at Century Park Elementary

Gordon Philanthropies was honored to have welcomed Dr. Loretta Johnson-Smith to an afternoon of inspiration and empowerment.

Driven by her passion to help children and youth realize their full potential and transform their lives into success stories, Dr. Johnson-Smith authored the children’s book, First Black Girl: Black Women Who Opened the Door for Black Girls. As an inspiration to girls of color, First Black Girl highlights sixteen past and present; relentless and radiant; bold and Black women, who trail blazed their way through entertainment, education, sports, science, politics, and art.

“I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for your support in bringing my children’s book to students at Century Park Elementary School. Being a product of this school, it meant the world to me to come back and visit as an author, alumni, and educational leader. Meeting and interacting with students who sit in a seat that I once sat in was an unforgettable experience.” – Dr. Loretta Johnson-Smith
