The Superheroes of the Boys & Girls Club of Mar Vista Gardens Write with Power
In collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club of Mar Vista Gardens, Gordon Philanthropies celebrated the upcoming launch of A Grammarian Superhero Book: Write with Power.
The event, which featured a superhero theme, provided K – 5th grade students of Mar Vista Garden’s Boys & Girls Club a free copy of A Grammarian Superhero Book: Write with Power along with a dictionary. Students lined up excitedly as they received their books, a superhero cape, and a goodie bag.
The celebration was made thanks to Gordon Philanthropies as they continue in their efforts to tackle the rising illiteracy crisis affecting children in underserved communities. Driven by their belief that reading is a basic human right, the non-profit organization is dedicated to providing the resources students need in order to achieve academic success.
Part of the event consisted of a grammar workshop where students were taught basic grammar rules such as, how to use different punctuation marks. Afterwards, students were also able to engage in a reading session enjoying the variety of stories touching on relevant subjects such as adjusting to a new country, coping with disabilities, and dealing with bullying, all while teaching the rules of grammar.
A Grammarian Superhero Book: Write with Power, which is due to be released later this year, was developed by Gordon Philanthropies with the goal of providing helpful educational resources for students across Los Angeles County. The grammar book will also be made available in Spanish for children in “English as Second Language” classes (ESL).
