Inspiration and Empowerment at Century Park Elementary with Dr. Loretta Johnson-Smith

Gordon Philanthropies welcomed Dr. Loretta Johnson-Smith to visit students at Century Park Elementary School for an afternoon of inspiration and empowerment.

Motivated by her passion for helping children and youth achieve their full potential and transform their lives into success stories, Dr. Johnson-Smith was inspired to write the children’s book, First Black Girl: Black Women Who Opened the Door for Black Girls. This book inspires girls of color, highlighting sixteen remarkable Black women—past and present—who have blazed trails in various fields, including entertainment, education, sports, science, politics, and art. These relentless and radiant figures exemplify boldness and serve as role models for future generations.

Dr. Loretta Johnson-Smith shares, “I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for Gordon Philanthropies’ support in brining my children’s book to students at Century Park Elementary School. Being a product of this school, it meant the world to me to come back and visit as an author, alumni, and educational leader. Meeting and interacting with students who sit in a seat that I once sat in was an unforgettable experience.”
